The latest example of this situation is the announcement of Instagram’s new microblogging platform called Threads.

Threads platform, which will be launched on July 6, plans to compete with Twitter. Users will be able to log in with their Instagram accounts to the Threads platform, which has a Twitter-like sharing flow. However, other than that, there are not many details known about the Threads platform.

What is Threads App?

Threads is a text-based decentralized social media platform developed by Instagram, hence Meta. Although Threads is claimed to be a standalone application, Instagram users will log into the platform with their existing usernames. Users’ account verifications on Instagram can also be transferred to the Threads platform.

Of course, that’s not all. Users will be able to send notifications for the Threads platform to their followers on Instagram, so Instagram users will be able to transfer their audiences to the Threads platform. In addition, blocked words and accounts will be transferred directly to the Threads platform. Compared to Twitter, the character limit is also much higher in the Threads collection. While the character limit is limited to 285 on Twitter, this figure is set as 500 on the Threads platform.

Although both Twitter and Threads platform are built on the ActivityPub protocol, Twitter does not support Mastadon integration, while Instagram’s Threads is expected to have interoperability compatibility with Mastadon.

How to Download Threads App?

Threads App, which will be available on July 6, is currently available for download through the app stores on iOS and Android devices. Since the application is not officially available yet, users who want to download the Threads application must wait until the launch date.

Currently, users can set a timer to be notified as soon as the Threads app is available on the App Store and Google Play Store. However, a small surprise awaits users who write “Threads” in the search section on Instagram. Users are thus directed to Threads’ app store page via a ticket customized for them.
